Options for online lectures
CIT provides the following options for lectures during the eLearning Week. These services differ in features and complexity. We encourage you to choose the solution you are most comfortable with. CIT also recommends that you maintain a presence for your module in IVLE so that students can access these online lectures regardless of the option that you take.
- Presentation + Lecture Notes

The most basic approach is to upload your presentation slides to your module’s Workbin in IVLE, accompanied by an explanatory document. - Presentation + Audio
http://cit.nus.edu.sg/audio-recording/
The simplest self-supported lecture creation method. Record your lecture to an mp3 audio file, then upload the audio file and the presentation slides to IVLE. - Previously recorded Webcasts or Podcasts
Many faculty staff have been using webcasts and podcasts to deliver lectures. These have been archived over the years, and the appropriate lecture for the eLearning Week can be replayed from a previous semester. Please inform CIT early if you want to use a previous semester's webcast. - Pre-recorded Webcasts or Podcasts
If you never used the webcast or podcast service, you can arrange for CIT to pre-record your lectures for webcast or podcast before the eLearning Week. This webcast will then be made available in IVLE during the week itself. - Breeze
http://cit.nus.edu.sg/breeze-diy-courseware/
Breeze allows you to add audio narration to your existing PowerPoint presentations. You can record your narration using an inexpensive audio headset and a microphone connected to a PC. Breeze authoring is Windows-only. The output can be viewed on a Flash-enabled web browser on any platform. - Screen Recording
http://cit.nus.edu.sg/screen-recording/
Screen Recording enables you to record a video of your computer’s desktop. You can record your audio narration accompanied by anything which can be displayed on your screen. You can talk over presentation slides (PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote or others), display a website or demonstrate particular software. The video will be uploaded to our servers and made available in IVLE. - Others
You may decide to use other methods to deliver your lectures during the eLearning Week. CIT encourages you to experiment with different approaches to delivering your lectures.
Briefing sessions
In order to ensure a successful eLearning Week, the Centre for Instructional Technology (CIT) has already begun briefing sessions detailing the eLearning services available to you. Your Faculty or Department will inform you when the briefings are being conducted.
Early preparation is vital
CIT encourages you to start preparing early for the eLearning Week as the entire campus will be involved in this exercise. We will work closely with the respective Faculty IT Units, AV Units and NUS ITcare to support your needs. We hope that the eLearning Week will be a fruitful experience for you and your students.
Compliments
The audio recording of the Week 8 lecture went well without a glitch. Thanks for the great instructions on the CIT/WIKI website. Assistant Professor Lin Kun-Chin, Political Science
Thank you very much for setting up the screencast on my behalf. FYI, I like screencast so much that I'll be putting it up weekly in place of webcast lectures. 8-) Instructor Henry CHIA Wai Kit, Computer Science |
