eLearning Week 2008

The Communications and New Media Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with the support of the Office of Safety, Health and Environment and the Centre for Instructional Technology will be holding an eLearning Week from Monday, 18 February to Friday, 22 February 2008.

Objective

Through eLearning Week, we want to prepare, monitor and test the readiness and ability of our students, staff and systems to cope with an emergency situation where on-campus teaching facilities are unavailable.

CIT's Role

CIT has a three-fold role in eLearning Week:

• Publicity: Spreading the preparedness message;
• Tranining: Training students and staff to use the various eLearning tools; and
• Support: Ensuring that the appropriate services are in place and that they are able to cope with increased load.

Preparing for eLearning Week

We encourage CNM faculty staff to attend our training sessions to learn more about Breeze and Centra.

We also encourage faculty staff to:

1. Build a comprehensive presence on IVLE;
2. Use IVLE's Lesson Plan, particularly in coordinating eLearning Week's lessons; and
3. Build an archive of webcasts/podcasts for future use.

Alternatives

We suggest the following in place of lectures and tutorials.

Limitations

CIT will not be able to:

• Support examinations
• Provide hardware for home use
• Provide on-site support
