Flexible Learning Spaces

Education Resource Centre at University Town

The design of learning spaces is an issue which challenges designers to incorporate collaborative and computer-mediated aspects to otherwise staid classrooms and learning spaces. Aside from the physical layout, designers also have to create spaces which stimulate creativity and facilitate collaboration.

The concept of flexible learning spaces will be implemented, beginning with the new Education Resource Centre in the upcoming University Town. CIT envisions a learning space for students which will allow for a wide range of use, limited only by our students’ imagination. The spaces need to have easy-to-use enabling technology – wireless access, power supply, presentation means, collaboration affordances – that does not get in the way physically.

The ERC will set new standards in learning spaces in NUS, and possibly in Singapore. If successful, the flexible learning space at ERC will be a template for implementation throughout the university.
